I1!

You sunk my battleship!

Like Jasper, today, I took great thrill in hearing those words.  Unlike Jasper though, I actually was playing battleship – one that I built!  Special shout out to my mentor John who helped me establish the foundation code and who will now proceed to “rip it apart mercilessly” (direct quote).

I thought I would destroy the computer.  I didn’t build in any artificial intelligence so the computer just keeps randomly guessing (it was smart enough not to guess the same spot twice though).  I realized that I only had an advantage if I hit something – then I would get really excited and proceed to use my intelligence (i.e. go left-right, up-down) and sink a ship.

As I typically do, I’m going to try and make a lesson out of something that probably shouldn’t be made into a lesson.  Perhaps life is more about chance than we think.  That said, once we make a random hit, we need to quickly seize that opportunity.  For those of us born with a healthy body in a healthy family, that’s a lucky enough hit already.  We should make sure we make the most of it.
